Louis Taylor

n612905128_1100068_8072-1Louis Taylor has worked in the arts, theatre and film industry as a producer, actor, teacher, acting coach, dancer, writer, director (both in theatre and film), assistant director, casting director, outreach co-coordinator and script consultant.

Filmography

2000 – Esther, Baby & Me, a 20 minute, comedic docudrama on Louis Taylor’s journey toward fatherhood;

2002 – You Are Evil, a 6 minute video on denial and responsibility in the wake of the events of 9/11

2005 – Bravofact – Moloch, a 10 min performance film taking a satirical look at patriarchy through a black male lense.

2007 – Bravofact – David & the Conglomerate, a 6-minute, dark comedy on paranoia, irrationality, internal race divisions and conspiracy theories.
2008 – The Dealer, a 30 second satirical, anti-Harper PSA for the Gone in 30 Second contest, put on by the Department of Culture.

2007 ongoing – Travels of a Returning Son, feature documentary. Louis Taylor goes on a road trip from Toronto to New Orleans, Detroit and Newark to discover the state of Black America and explore his own issues with race and identity.

Festivals/Awards

Esther, Baby and Me (2000), 21 minute, Docudrama. Won Best Video at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival (Filmothek), Best Documentary at the Pacific Coast Film Festival, took 2nd Prize in the Documentary category at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, Best Screenplay at the Laguna Beach Film Festival and won an honourable mention at the Black Filmmaker’s Hall of Fame awards. It was nominated for the Best Short award at Hot Docs International Documentary Festival, Best Script and Best Multicultural/Race Relations awards at the Yorkton Short Film Festival and Outstanding Director and Documentary at the Reel Black Awards. It has been invited to the DOCtober International Documentary Film Festival (where it qualified for an Academy Award nomination), the Atlantic International Film Festival, City of Angels Film Festival, Jamerica Film and Music Festival, Nuit du Court Festival, the Sex-n-Death Film Festival, the International Film Festival Amsterdam, the Urban World Film Festival, the LIFT 20th Anniversary screenings, the Reel Black Film Night-Halifax, Tokyo Video Festival, the Kraków International Documentary & Short Film Festival, the Black Filmmakers Magazine International Film Festival (London) and V Tape’s Vision Collection.

You Are Evil  (2002), a 6 minute POV drama. Screened at the 60th Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica (Venice International Film Festival), the Festival Der Nationen (Ebensee International Film Festival, Austria), the Get Reel Film Festival, the New Orleans New Media Conference, the Sex and Death Film Festival and the Brisbane International Film Festival.

Moloch  (2005) Bravofact, a 10 minute POV drama. Screened at Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid (06) and Oberhausen (07). Aired on Bravo 2006

David & the Conglomerate (2007), a 6 minute drama. Bravofact, will screen at Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid and Oberhausen. It will air on Bravo in 2009
