Lucky Ejim & Jude Idada
The dynamic filmmaking team behind the feature film THE TENANT.
Ejim and Idada developed the concept for The Tenant in a single night in December 2005, reflecting on their own immigrant experiences, and the dreams and promises that so many are unable to keep through no fault of their own. Written in two weeks by Idada, and independently funded by the creators, The Tenant is the result of two years of passion and dedication, and is a testament to the immigrant experience that is integral to the modern Canadian identity.
A successful and talented actor with past roles in the award winning feature film A Winter Tale, groundbreaking Canadian TV series The Border, and political drama The Summit, director/actor Lucky Ejim has demonstrated considerable skill on either side of the camera. A graduate of both the Toronto Film School and University of Benin, Ejim is currently in pre-production for two feature films.
A graduate of the University of Ibadan, The Tenant screenwriter/producer Jude Idada has also written and directed three short films in addition to his notable success in theatre, writing the plays Oduduwa; King of the Binis, and the upcoming Vendetta, as well as serving as a line producer on the upcoming film Legends of Africa, produced by Joe Carnahan. He is a published novelist and poet. Focused on building understanding between Africa and the West through his work, Idada has written two other films currently in pre-production.
Formed in 2005, Toronto-based Broken Manacles Entertainment produces high quality entertainment that celebrates diversity, giving a strong voice to personal stories from all cultures. Alongside The Tenant, Broken Manacles is developing properties in film, television, theatre, radio and new media, including feature films Sex in the Age of Innocence, Ghetto Red Hot and Faces of a Coin, and has produced Oduduwa; King of the Binis for the stage, in conjunction with Ibadan, Nigeria’s Oracle Repertory Theatre.
